The current generation of the popular Cherokee has been around for more than five years. However, it received an update recently, so we can say it is pretty fresh once again. If you are looking for a vehicle that is strong both on and off the road, you should definitely consider this one. The 2020 Jeep Cherokee is about to come without more important changes, considering that the 2019-year model receive a major update. The recent refresh has brought lots of novelties and all of them will carry on for the next year.
However, new generation of the Cherokee model (WL) will be presented and available in 2020. This will be 2021 Jeep Cherokee! Now when we know that its big brother Grand Cherokee is becoming seven seater, we can also expect more space in the new generation of this SUV.
In terms of base design characteristics, this crossover hasn’t changed too much since 2013. It still rides on the company’s familiar Compact US Wide platform and features familiar mechanics. However, the recent update has brought a lot of aesthetical novelties. The new version looks far better. While the initial version of the fifth generation is characterized by unusual, very narrow headlights. This was by far the most distinctive detail on the vehicles, but things changed recently. The updated version comes with more conventional headlights, which are closer to what we can see on the new Compass and flagship Grand Cherokee. The look leaves more natural impression and fits better to the model’s highly-capable nature. The 2020 Jeep Cherokee will carry on without more important changes, both in terms of mechanics and aesthetics.
The interior also received a couple of novelties last year. Still, the overall shape has remained quite familiar. The cabin of 2020 Jeep Cherokee will come without changes, which in practice means some kind of a mixed bag. Compared to most rivals, it features a much smaller cargo area. Rivals like Honda CR-V and Ford Escape are superior in this aspect. On the other side, the Cherokee comes with a full load of tech goodies already in most basic versions. Even the cheapest Compass is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, climate control etc.
The 2020 Jeep Cherokee will continue with three engines in the offer. The base 2.4-liter unit is good for about 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque and it is really uninspiring to drive. On the other side, optional units are amazing. The first one is a familiar 3.2-liter V6 that delivers around 270 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there is a new 2.0-liter turbo-four, which features pretty much the same amount of power as the V6, but much more torque, around 295 lb-ft. In both cases, the 2020 model will give exceptional off-road performances. Moreover, you can count on pretty amazing 4.500 pounds of a max towing capacity with the V6 engine.
Since there are no bigger changes planned for the 2020 Jeep Cherokee, it should hit the market late in the year. Price should remain unchanged, which means around 24.500 dollars for base models.
The 2021 Jeep Cherokee represents new generation and it carries the WL chassis code. So far we know that this six generation Cherokee comes without SRT model. In matter of fact there will be no SRT badge for any of Jeep models. Don’t freak out, the SRT engineers will still work on the performance models, but all performance models will have Trackhawk label.
